China invents the first real Transformer that you can buy, two vehicles in one

The Chinese new energy market, electric and plug-in hybrids, has reached such a supply point that it is almost impossible to gain a foothold. More than 150 different brands fight in the market and although the proposals are more numerous than ever, some personality and differentiation is missing. All cars end up looking alike inside and out. At Changan, one of the most important state-owned manufacturers in the country, they wanted to break any pre-established rule by presenting a car that is actually two. A kind of Transformer for real life which they have called 07.

It should be noted that it is a series production car, in fact, it is already being produced. Changan is going to market it through one of its many local brands, Nevo. For those who don’t know, Changan is not only one of the largest domestic manufacturers, it is also one of the oldest automobile companies in China. Founded in 1862, the company is gaining momentum in this new era of electrification thanks not only to the production of cars, but to the shared development of electric units together with other large companies, such as Huawei and CATL.

What we do not know, although we doubt it, is whether in Europe we will enjoy the new Nevo 07, which in China is considered the first electric Transformer in the world. Leaving aside the marketing aspect of the presentation, the 07 is actually two cars under the same body.. On the one hand, it is a coupe SUV with a somewhat strange shape, which makes all the sense in the world when it is transformed into a pick-up with a 300 kilo load.

The rear glass dome slides forward to leave open a box that we can access through a functional tailgate that in turn hides the lower window. The presentation, curiosity aside, is quite interesting, although completely strange. Note that this is not the first time we have seen something similar. Already in the past, In the United States, a lot of research was done with these transforming bodies. However, given the few practical functions they presented, they were discarded several decades ago. In China they believe it is time for them to return.

The 5.04 meter long Nevo 07 is sold in both EV and EREV (extended range electric) formats with an electric range of up to 701 kilometers according to the Chinese homologation protocol (CLTC). The model with a gasoline generator is capable of offering up to 200 kilometers of range in electric mode. As we have already said, Changan is already producing the first units of the 07. It is already on sale in a price range between 209,900 and 299,9000 yuan for the EREV version (starting at 27,300 euros) and between 199,900 and 319,900 yuan for the 100% electric model (starting at 25,900 euros). Taking into account the price standards in China, it is not a particularly cheap vehicle.
