China’s the capital Beijing saw a rare demonstration of the president on Thursday Xi Jinping and against corona restrictions. Among other things, they reported on the matter BBC and CNN.

Photos circulating on Twitter on Thursday showed two bed sheets emblazoned with slogans hanging over a busy bridge in Beijing. In the sheets, a strong stance was taken against both Xi’s practice of zero tolerance for the coronavirus and his administration, which was criticized as authoritarian.

The police intervened in the demonstration and quickly removed the sheets.

Demonstration was organized a day before the 20th Party Congress of the country’s single-power Communist Party.

The party meeting starts in Beijing on Sunday. The meeting, held every fifth year, decides on President Xi’s continued term as the leader of China.

The authorities have prepared for the party conference by, among other things, tightening access to Beijing and imposing movement restrictions on residents. Extensive corona restrictions has also been done in other big cities in China.
