Little boys with briefs peeking from skirts and jeans have sparked the indignation of pupils on social media
Since yesterday, May 27, it is the most debated topic on Weibo, the Chinese Twitter. And since it is a Chinese social network, the views were 2.2 billion. Arousing so much interest is the indexing by the government of a mathematics book dedicated to children. More than the content, the drawings have caused a sensation, defined as: “Obscene, ugly and even pro-American”. This time the censorship has some basis: the illustrations in question depict children not only poorly drawn and clumsy, but with the male genitals marked with a lot of “bulges” under the pants. Then there are the boys who raise the skirts of the girls, dresses with stars and stripes that refer to the US flag. And even a Chinese flag that happens to have been drawn upside down.
The beauty is that the publishing house responsible for the edition is the “People’s Education Press” which depends directly on the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic and has already willingly accepted and apologizing to redo the drawings.
The mystery of how these illustrations managed to pass unscathed the scrutiny of the ministerial commission remains.
And one thing is certain, the book – as the book will soon be retired – will become a sought after collector’s item.
