In the next episode of Biomedical Report, the scientific in-depth program curated by the immunologist Mauro Minelli under the aegis of the Foundation for Personalized Medicine, will be addressed with the advice of distinguished specialists in the sector, the very current topic of seasonal respiratory tract infections in pediatric age. So pharyngitis, laryngitis, cough, ear infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, at the center of a wide debate in which the reasons that, during the cold months, justify the particular vulnerability of children and, at the same time, the great apprehension of their mothers will be examined. Of course the attendance of school environments, where the passage of microorganisms from one child to another is inevitable, unquestionably plays a leading role, but it must also be considered that, having not yet completed the maturation process of the immune system, each new agent infectious, it can easily colonize the respiratory tract of children.
So what to do at the debut of the most critical season? How to deal with the looming winter ailments? Is an effective preventive action possible in the little ones? And will vaccines be good to get them? Will the tonsils be removed to avoid relapses? In case of otitis, will it be enough to put a few drops of hot oil in the ears or should we act differently? And what can we say about the respiratory syncytial virus? What are the common symptoms associated with this infection? What are the most severe complications and what are the treatments? What to feed children with flu? On the food side, how to behave when the sick child is also inappetent and listless?
Then there are children with rhinitis or asthma, those sensitive to mites, fungi and molds, pollen, for which therapies with drugs capable of stabilizing even the allergic component will be set up. For these patients, regardless of their age, Biomedical Report, starting from Friday 5 November, will host a new column in which, by the Italian Society of Aerobiology, updated information will be provided on the aeropollinic calendar obtained by daily sampling of pollen and fungal spores. It is a useful tool both for the doctor who, thanks to this information, will be able to set a correct diagnosis and precision therapy in favor of the allergic patient, both for allergy sufferers, since from the knowledge of the data provided by pollen monitoring. and sporological, the allergic subject will be able to obtain elements of forecast and therefore of prevention differentiated, among other things, by geographical areas.
