The Ministry of Sports of Russia and sports federations will have to submit proposals for the development of the sports management system by mid-July. This is stated on website government following a meeting held on July 2 by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
According to him, the indicators of victories of Russian athletes do not suit the government and taxpayers, therefore urgent actions are needed to develop the sports sector in the country.
“The game of our players at the European Championship, the defeat of the hockey players in the quarterfinals at the World Championship, the loss to the Mexican national team in the basketball selection for the Olympics – these are not the results that taxpayers and the government demand from us,” Chernyshenko said.
So, changes require such moments as “the dominance of legionnaires (foreigners playing for the national team of another country. – Ed. ), “Overheated sportsmen salary market” and “opaque selection criteria,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
The head of the Ministry of Sports Oleg Matytsin, in turn, pointed out the need to develop “uniform approaches and principles for the development of team sports in Russia”, as well as to define the role of the state and public organizations.
On June 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a straight line, assessed the results of Russian athletes after the last matches of the World Ice Hockey Championship and the European Football Championship.
According to the head of state, in such cases, it is necessary to think about the positive results achieved by the coaching staffs and athletes, as well as develop changes, including in the personnel component.
