A young man was accused of rape in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. After the charge, the young man faced trial, had to endure slander for seven years, lost his engineering degree and was jailed. Now the court has found the charges against the youth to be fake and has ordered the accused girl to pay Rs 15 lakh compensation to the youth.
A youth named Santosh was accused of rape by a young woman. The woman became pregnant and gave birth to a child. DNA test proved that the child was not of Santosh. After this, Santosh had demanded compensation from the girl in the court.
Police also made a plaintiff
Santosh told the court that both career and life were destroyed after the rape charges. He filed a petition in the court demanding compensation of Rs 30 lakh. Santosh in his case named the girl, her parents and the Secretariat Colony Police Inspector investigating her case.
Neighbors had families of both
Santosh’s lawyer Sirajuddin said that the woman and her family were neighbors. Both belonged to the same caste. The family of the two talked about marriage and he too agreed. All was well between the two families. A few days later, there was some dispute between his family over the property.
Santosh and his family moved to another area of Chennai. Santosh got admission in a private engineering college. He started doing B.Tech from here. During this time, the woman’s mother contacted Santosh’s parents. He said that he wants Santosh and his daughter to get married immediately. When Santosh refused this marriage, the girl’s family filed a rape case against her.
Remained in jail for 90 days
Santosh was arrested by the police. He was sent to jail on 12 February 2010 for 95 days in custody. After three months, Santosh came out on bail and he came to know that the girl had given birth to a baby girl. Santosh demands DNA test of the girl child. On one hand, trial started against Santosh. The DNA test revealed that the girl was not Santosh. The court acquitted Santosh of charges.
