Chavismo’s number two, Diosdado Cabello, said on Monday that he hopes that relations between Venezuela and Colombia will improve. with a new president in the Andean nation, whose name will be defined in the second electoral round on June 19, since in the first, held this Sunday, no candidate achieved a sufficient majority to govern.

“The strength of the people is superior to the positions held by the presidents. I hope that whoever wins there (in Colombia) understands that the healthiest thing is that we Venezuelans have good relations, hopefully,” he said in a televised press conference.
The first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) affirmed that the reality of the border between the two nations cannot be “covered” by the opinion of a president.
“Venezuela has 2,100 kilometers with Colombia, it is not a small thing. In some places with more dynamics than others (…) but there are citizens who feel Colombian and Venezuelan at the same time,” he added. The politician affirmed that in Colombia there have been “presidents of the oligarchy” with whom Venezuela has had good relations.
“The madness began with (Andrés) Pastrana here, openly. They have planned assassinations in Colombia for here, not one, invasions, not once, several times. So hopefully things take the path of tranquility and peace,” he said. On June 19, Colombians will choose between the leftist Gustavo Petro and the populist Rodolfo Hernández.
According to the National Registry, the entity that organizes the elections, with 99.99% of the vote counted, Gustavo Petro, candidate of the Historical Pact, received 8,527,768 votes on Sunday, equivalent to 40.32%, and Hernández, from the League of Anticorruption Governors, received 5,953,209 ballots (28.15%).
It is the first time that the left wins an election in Colombia and also the first in 20 years that Uribismo, the right-wing current founded by former President Álvaro Uribe, is not among the proposals to be elected.
