Q1 and Q2
After his crash in the last free practice, Esteban Ocon’s chassis was damaged. As a result, he cannot participate in qualifying and will start at the back tomorrow. Lewis Hamilton struggles to get out of the danger zone, but goes fast enough in the closing minutes of the first session to advance to Q2.
George Russell is the Mercedes driver struggling in Q2. He can’t get the car right through the corners a few times, so he has to cut off laps. However, he no longer manages to go fast enough. In the second free practice he was fastest, but now he finishes in P12 and is not allowed to participate in Q3.
Q3
In the third qualifying session, the drivers will complete the final fast laps to determine who will start from pole position tomorrow. After the first attempts, Verstappen is the fastest. He is then a few hundredths ahead of Leclerc and Sainz. Pérez takes a provisional fourth place.
There will then be time for one quick lap for all drivers. Both Ferraris go faster in these second runs. However, Verstappen makes a mistake, which prevents him from improving his time. Charles Leclerc takes pole position and will have his teammate next to him on the front row tomorrow. The Red Bulls will start from row two tomorrow.
