FC Utrecht continues to struggle. After countless missed opportunities in the second half, Kaj Sierhuis did hit the mark on behalf of Heracles Almelo about ten minutes before the end: 1-0.
A couch with Tommy St. Jago, Hidde ter Avest, Joris van Overeem, Simon Gustafson, Django Warmerdam, Sander van de Streek, Bart Ramselaar, Moussa Sylla and Remco Balk. They would all be basic players at clubs that are not far below Utrecht in the ranking. Then you would say that there is sufficient quality within the lines to make it difficult for a decent mid-range driver like Heracles Almelo. Yet the first half in the Erve Asito was of a miserable level, without FC Utrecht’s finished chance.
After his heroic role against Cambuur as a substitute, striker Henk Veerman formed a couple with Tasos Douvikas from the kick-off. The problem with Veerman is that the temptation is immediately great to play the long ball. Last week this resulted in a storm of chances against Cambuur, mainly losing the ball against Heracles. In midfield, the team of trainer René Hake could not get a grip on it, without an attacking midfielder.
Sleep-inducing first half
After a sleep-inducing first half – because Heracles barely created anything – it became a lot more attractive to watch in the second half. Then Hake’s team had plenty of opportunities to win the game. Djevencio van der Kust hit the post, Willem Janssen encountered the once again outstanding Janis Blaswich from close by, Henk Veerman shot into the side net and ran into Blaswich in his path and Mark van der Maarel shot over. And so there were still some opportunities to note.
But the defensive vulnerability also remains a topic of discussion. Because against the Utrecht chances were also saves from the well-keeping Fabian de Keijzer. The goalkeeper had no chance when ten minutes before time striker Kaj Sierhuis appeared in front of him and scored after a beautifully designed attack. The attacker was injured just before time.
By being lethal in front of the goal, unlike Utrecht, Heracles booked another victory after four games without a win. Heracles therefore climbed to twelfth place. FC Utrecht remained seventh.
