Mexico.- This Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies approved a reform to the General Law of the System of Challenge Means in Electoral Matters to establish the inadmissibility of challenging the parliamentary agreements of the Federal Legislative Power regarding the integration, organization and internal operation of its commissions.
The benches of Morena, PRI, PT and PVEM managed to push through the amendment with 335 votes in favor and 136 against from the parliamentary groups of the PAN, Citizen Movement (MC) and PRDas well as 9 abstentions.
The addition to the General Law of the System of Means of Challenge in Electoral Matters has the purpose, according to the opinion, of defending the sovereignty and autonomy of the Congress of the Union and, with it, avoiding the invasion of faculties by the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF).

The foregoing after Movimiento Ciudadano filed an appeal before the TEPJF for having been excluded from the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union last December 2021. Given this, the magistrates ordered the Lower House to include the orange faction in the aforementioned parliamentary commission.
“It is essential to assert and respect the sovereignty of the Legislative Power, as well as to shield the internal determinations of the Chambers of Deputies and Senators,” remarked the Morenista Gustavo Contreras when setting the position of his bench.
On the opposite side, the parliamentary groups of Acción Nacional and Movimiento Naranja described the reform as an authoritarian act on the part of the ruling party, anticipating that they will go to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to promote an action of unconstitutionality in case the Upper House ratifies the opinion.

“If this law materializes in the Senate of the Republic, we are going to beat them again in a constitutional court, in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, which will defend the division of powers and the constitutional rule of law. This discussion is about when we are going to understand that the rules that we give to power today for supposed benefit are the rules with which tomorrow they intend to erase those of us who are not in power”, anticipated the emecista Jorge Álvarez.
