The measure that bans the use of cell phones in classin elementary and middle school, has had a very positive reaction in the school world. This is what the Minister of Education and Merit said, Joseph Valditaraon ‘Porta a Porta’ on Rai 1. “The reaction of the school world has been very positive. The kids have understood that we are taking care of them and we care about their health,” explained the minister.
“We have launched a major social issue – declared Valditara – and we have made the school the protagonist of this debate. I believe it is an important decision because it shows that the school wants to take the health of our children to heart, create a cell phone detox moment. School must teach how to look each other in the eye.”
“We have calculated – the Minister of Education explained to ‘Porta a Porta’ – 50,000 kids who no longer go to school because they’re glued to their cell phones and social media. They lock themselves in their room for at least six months, totally dependent on these virtual tools. The data is dramatic. It is a social problem, which arose in Japan, and is spreading throughout Europe. And parents do not know what to do: it is very difficult to overcome this dependence and therefore we must carry out a great campaign of persuasion, so that this is not given into the hands of minors and children. instrument of mass destruction. The cell phone given to children of 7-8 years has truly terrible effects. Let’s start from schools with a strong education: we must rebuild the alliance between parents, children and school”.
During the broadcast, Valditara explained that it is essential to “educate parents too”. “I launch this appeal: since science is now quite univocal,” said the minister, “cell phones, especially for younger children, are harmful, let’s get back into the habit of having positive relationshipsbeautiful immediate, direct with our children. When a parent puts their child to bed, do not give him a cell phone, tell him, read him a nice story because in this way the child is also accustomed to fantasy”.
In the future there is also the project to propose this measure to the European Union. “I met the Minister of Education of Cyprus who greatly appreciated the decision to ban cell phones in school. We thought – Valditara declared – to prepare a document to be submitted to all Education Ministers in Brussels on the subjectalso because some states such as France, Holland, Sweden, have already started in this direction and I believe that we will easily reach, I believe, a strong consensus”.
