Dhe CDU politician Thorsten Frei sharply attacked the Greens and above all Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck. It is about politicians doing everything possible to prevent a possible energy emergency in winter. “And the government hasn’t done everything,” Frei said on Tuesday during a visit to the FAZ’s political department
It would therefore be the responsibility of Federal Minister of Economics Habeck not to further reduce the energy supply. But that’s exactly what he’s doing, said Frei. Habeck, but overall the Greens are still ideological when it comes to nuclear power. “The Greens are more of an anti-nuclear party than a climate protection party.”
No trust on household issues
Frei does not accept any objections by the nuclear power plant operators. The financial, legal and technical issues of a limited term extension can be solved. The First Parliamentary Secretary was also willing to support the traffic light government on certain issues in the Bundestag. “We are ready to be state-supporting where it is important for Germany.”
Frei does not expect the traffic light government to break prematurely – despite many arguments. Nevertheless: “We are ready if we are needed in the government.” Merz is the reserve chancellor, so he also speaks at eye level with the SPD chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Even if the Union is currently firmly ahead in the polls, Frei believes that the Union cannot be satisfied with just under 30 percent. Overall, the following applies: “It’s a marathon in which the intermediate result doesn’t count.”
Frei does not trust the coalition, especially when it comes to budgetary issues. This applies to the plan to present a balanced budget again in 2023, but also to achieving the two percent target for German defense spending. “A turning point is not only evident in security policy, but it must also be reflected in budgetary policy.”
