The Union parliamentary group has set up personnel for the opposition period. Ex-Health Minister Spahn takes on a new topic.
Berlin – After switching to the opposition, the Union set the clocks to zero – and reassigned the posts within the parliamentary group. This time the distribution of parliamentary groups was particularly important. After all, the offices of federal ministers have ceased to exist for the CDU and CSU. The parliamentary group is now the center of federal political power alongside the party leader who will soon be elected.
There were a few surprises on Monday (December 13th). The former Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn will in future, as deputy parliamentary group leader, focus on the issues of economy, climate and energy. The group announced on Monday.
In addition to Spahn, the previous domestic policy spokesman Mathias Middelberg, Johann Wadephul, Hermann Gröhe, Sepp Müller and Nadine Schön (all CDU) were elected as new deputies of the parliamentary group leader Ralph Brinkhaus, like the New Osnabrück Newspaper initially reported, citing circles of the new parliamentary group leadership.
The Union parliamentary group is set up – Thorsten Frei becomes parliamentary managing director
The MP Thorsten Frei from Baden-Württemberg was elected First Parliamentary Managing Director of the Union parliamentary group. At the suggestion of parliamentary group leader Ralph Brinkhaus, he replaces Michael Grosse-Brömer from Lower Saxony, who has held the key post since May 2012. Brinkhaus’ remaining in office had also been fought hard in early autumn – but he will remain the head of the parliamentary group for the time being.
The previous interior expert Mathias Middelberg will be responsible for budget policy as vice-parliamentary group. Former Digital Minister of State Dorothee Bär will become deputy parliamentary group leader with responsibility for family, women and the media. The Saarland MP Nadine Schön – only stayed in parliament via detours – continues to act as parliamentary deputy with the focus areas digital and research.
Some thematic changes: The CDU and CSU occupy the parliamentary group
The other responsibilities of the parliamentary groups: Andrea Lindholz is responsible for the interior, Hermann Gröhe for labor and social affairs. Johann David Wadephul will speak for the outside world and defense, Sepp Müller for health and new countries. Ulrich Lange is responsible for traffic and housing, Patricia Lips is responsible for European affairs and Steffen Bilger is responsible for nutrition and agriculture. Bär, Lange and Lindholz belong to the CSU. The other elected are members of the CDU.
The member vote on the new CDU chairman will end in a few days. The CSU had recently clarified their role allocation – and at the same time issued a declaration of war. (dpa / AFP)
