This Sunday, June 2, Mexico City will face a significant electoral day, where citizens will elect the head of government, 66 local deputies—33 relative majority, 32 proportional representation and one migrant—as well as leadership in the 16 mayoralties and their corresponding councillors.
In the midst of a climate of anticipation and with reinforced security measures, voters in the Mexican capital will decide the political future of the region.
Candidates for the Head of Government
The race for the head of government features three main candidates, each with a different trajectory and proposals that seek to capture the support of the electorate:
- Clara Brugadarepresents the coalition led by Morena. With a long career in public service, Brugada has been mayor of Iztapalapa on three occasions and a federal representative, standing out for her integrity and alignment with the principles of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Her platform focuses on honesty and community work.
- Santiago Taboada He is the candidate of the “Va por la CDMX” coalition, made up of PAN, PRI and PRD. With studies in law and a master’s degree in Governance and Political Communication from George Washington University, Taboada has served as a local representative and mayor of Benito Juárez, focusing on security issues and effective governance.
- Solomon Chertorivsky, With a solid academic background in economics and public policies from ITAM and Harvard, he is known for his performance as Secretary of Health and Economic Development of CDMX. His candidacy is supported by his experience in the public and academic sectors, promoting an agenda of innovation and economic development.
