The new latest generation CATL batteries are preparing to go into production. The Chinese giant has announced that starting from next year it will start mass production of its new electric units, which thanks to greater efficiency will allow the electric cars that they will equip with travel greater distances with each charge. A necessary step to ensure that CATL can keep pace with rival companies, BYD above all, since the latter will soon begin to supply Tesla with its electric batteries.
The new CATL battery has been called Qilin, and is tempting to many car manufacturers because, according to the figures released by the Japanese giant itself, will increase volume utilization rate to 72%, the highest in the world, up from 50% of its first generation launched in 2019, and will also increase the energy density of the battery system to 255 Wh / kg. At the moment CATL, which supplies electric batteries to car manufacturers of the caliber of Tesla, Volkswagen, BMW and NIO, has not disclosed which companies intend to refuel its latest generation batteries: the only certainty is that CATL has suffered a 24% drop of net profit in the first quarter due to the soaring costs of metals, which means that it absolutely needs new orders to get the balance sheet back on track. The first signs that have come from the second quarter, however, give the company hope.
