Caterham introduced the Seven 420 Cupa version essentially from track day which integrates all the latest improvements on a British model that boasts an incredible tradition. Nothing electric this time either, from the UK manufacturer, and there is not even talk of an anniversary model. This is a real addition to the range, not a limited edition, based on the 420R and designed to make a racing car ‘legal’ even for everyday roads.
While maintaining the reliable Ford Duratec 2.0 210 HP at the front, the car is completely new. A sequential gearbox SADEV 6-speed is located in the center, while the new 10-stage adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers they should improve road holding on the track, especially when combined with the ZZR Extreme Avon tires (optional). There are also some model-exclusive graphics, while the interior features bespoke stitching, new seats, a satin carbon dashboard and LED taillights included as standard.
Which are the numbers? The 420 CUP reaches 100 km / h in just 3.6 seconds, thanks to the new gearbox and improved driving dynamics. Thanks to the light weight, the car can actually give the latest supercars a headache on rough circuits. The car produces 375 bhp per ton (by the way, the scale actually says 560 kilos), and therefore is a monster of agility and speed, albeit in a very Spartan context, as it doesn’t even have a standard windshield.
According to Caterham, the real star of this version is the gearbox, which allows for quick gear changes. It is a car that can help less experienced drivers to refine their sensations, allowing them to ‘play’ with the car’s balance. Furthermore, adjustability is also a key strength of the 420 Cup. Fully adjustable shock absorbers are available for the first time in the history of the brand. The front shock absorbers are completely exposed, while to modify the rear ones it is sufficient to reach the inside of the wheel arch and rotate the dial to the chosen point.
