Two days after the murder of Vanessa Zappalà, the 26-year-old killed in Aci Trezza, while walking with peers, the ex who then took his own life, the military arrested a 33-year-old stalker from Aci Castello. The man was waiting for the ex outside the workplace, with a knife inside the backpack. The carabinieri of the mobile nucleus of the Compagnia di Gravina di Catania arrested him in the act of crime, held responsible for persecutory acts and illegal carrying of objects capable of offending.
The 36-year-old woman had ended her relationship with the man on 8 August, due to her temper. From that day the nightmare had begun. Messages, non-stop phone calls, which led the victim to block the ex’s telephone contact. But the 33-year-old kept calling her and sending her voice messages with an anonymous number, saying he would only stop when they got back together.
Increasingly anguished by the obsessive behavior of the ex, the 36-year-old on 11 August thus found the courage to report him to the carabinieri, who, as per protocol shared with the Prosecutor’s Office, provided her with a mobile number which she could call day and night to any need. User that last night the woman called for help when she realized that a car with her ex was parked outside the workplace. Thanks to that phone call, the crew of the gazelle immediately intervened on the spot, blocking and searching the 33-year-old who was hiding a knife inside his backpack. Investigations revealed that the car had been parked there for several hours. The weapon was seized, while the man was placed under house arrest.
