While hiking in Austria, a 12-year-old German was bitten by an adder. The venomous snake is also native to Baden-Württemberg.
Stuttgart / Ebensee – There are several poisonous snakes lurking in Baden-Württemberg that you shouldn’t get too close to. A recent case shows how dangerous an adder bite can be. Last Saturday a family from Bavaria went hiking in Austria. At the side of the road, the 12-year-old daughter bent down to a snake and was bitten. After the adder was bitten, the child had a badly swollen hand and shortness of breath. The snake bites are not life-threatening in most cases, but can cause dire consequences in a child. In the southwest, the animals can be found mainly in the Black Forest, the Swabian Alb and in the Allgäu.
