“Ablyazov was never a political refugee, he was wanted for crimes committed in various countries. Doubts are growing about the conviction of Renato Cortese, Maurizio Improta and the men involved in the Shalabayeva case, wife of the alleged dissident. Not a political refugee but a criminal wanted for serious financial crimes.
This is the picture provided by the ministries of the interior, justice and foreign affairs regarding Mukhtar Ablyazov. Picture that emerges in the answer to the question “presented by the parliamentarians of the 5 Star Movement, Caterina Licatini, Francesco D’Uva, Elisabetta Barbuto, Aldo Penna and Davide Aiello, to solicit the appropriate investigations and to shed light on some shadows of this affair.
“In fact, in 2020, a conviction for kidnapping was issued against seven men of the State, including the former police chief of Palermo and symbol of the fight against the mafia, Renato Cortese, and the police commissioner Maurizio Improta who had conducted the expulsion operations of Alma Shalabayeva, wife of the alleged Kazakh dissident.
What is outlined now is that not only Ablyazov did not have any valid permit to stay in Italy, but also that his presence on the national territory was the result of a note received from Interpol of Astana communicating the research in progress for the crimes of fraud and embezzlement of large sums of money.
Ablyazov was never an asylum seeker. A story that makes even more grotesque the sentence against Cortese, Improta and other excellent servants of the state for the expulsion of Shalabayeva, found by the authorities in possession of a passport with evident signs of counterfeiting. “An unfortunate accusation, aimed at men who have dedicated their lives to the fight against crime” commented the deputies Caterina Licatini, first signatory of the question, and Francesco D’Uva.
“We hope, together with the colleagues of the 5 Star Movement, that the data demonstrating Ablyazov’s criminal past and intentions will also contribute to rehabilitating all those who have had to suffer an unjust sentence for the tasks performed with decorum in the exercise of own duties “.
