Cartagena will host one of the main dates in the calendar of events related to tourism. The board of directors of the Institute of Tourism Quality of Spain (ICTE) chose this Thursday the candidacy presented by the General Directorate of Tourism Competitiveness and Quality for Cartagena to host the VI Edition of the International Congress of Tourism Quality, which will be held in June , and whose economic impact amounts to 800,000 euros.
This world forum has become a meeting point for public administrations and private companies, managers of tourism products and services that together share experiences and analyze the latest trends in tourism and quality systems.
The congress will bring together nearly 600 international tourism representatives for three days, who will discuss quality as a transversal axis in the search for a committed tourism future and will address the success experience represented by the Spanish Tourism Quality System and the ‘Q de Tourist Quality’ and ‘SafeTourism Certified’.
The general director of Tourism Competitiveness and Quality, Carlos Peñafiel, explained that “the Region is an ideal destination to organize the congress because it offers safe and quality tourism.” In this sense, he recalled that in 2021 the establishments adhering to the Sicted tourism quality system tripled and the number of establishments with tourism quality certificates increased by 56%, “which made us the only Region in Spain to show two figures of growth with this type of certificates».
The congress is “a unique opportunity to show the world the tourist excellence of Cartagena, its history, its culture and its gastronomic offer,” he added. ICTE’s Board of Directors opted for the Cartagena proposal over Vigo, Alicante and Seville, which were finalists, due to their tourist infrastructure, service offerings, commitment to quality and “the commitment of both its city council and the regional government to quality tourism.
