The signing of the veteran Basque midfielder could be announced shortly, while the other two will be made official after June 30
That there are no official announcements of signings does not mean that Cartagena is stopped in planning a squad that must be rebuilt this summer after the departure of 14 players from the team that Luis Carrión will lead for another season. In fact, Cartagena has finished closing an agreement with three footballers in the coming days. They are Mikel Rico (Huesca), Óscar Arribas (Alcorcón) and Aarón Escandell (Granada). They join Luca Sangalli, a midfielder who comes from Real Sociedad B and who, at the moment, is the only signing that has already been announced by the club.
The next could be Mikel Rico (Arrigorriaga, 37 years old). The one who has been captain of Huesca until a few weeks ago has decided to sign for Cartagena, declining the other offer he had to continue playing in the Second Division, which was that of Racing de Santander. Carrión has spoken with him and wants him to be a key player in Efesé 22-23, both on and off the pitch. He can bring experience, work and leadership skills, something that the locker room will need after the retirement of Alberto de la Bella.
The footballer, after a long career in the elite in which his six seasons at Athletic Club de Bilbao stand out, was clear from the first day that he wanted to come to Cartagena and end his sports career here, in line with what Rubén Castro has done, another veteran with stripes who has performed wonderfully as an albinegro in the twilight phase of his football career. The renewal of the Canarian striker, by the way, is agreed and the only thing missing is the signing of the contract that will join Cartagena until June 30, 2023.
The same happens with Mikel Rico, who a few weeks ago explained the reasons for his departure from Huesca in an interview with the program ‘Balones Out’. «When I arrived from Athletic Bilbao [en 2019] I had my doubts as to whether I could physically perform well, but Huesca gave me the joy of continuing to play football. My script was to retire at Huesca but one more year I would have burned out too much; and since I don’t want to finish the race with this feeling, I want to find another place », he said. You have already found it. He will play in Efesé.
In addition, Belmonte and Breis have practically closed the hiring of goalkeeper Aarón Escandell (Carcagente, 26 years old) and winger Óscar Arribas (Getafe, 23 years old). The signing of the contract is missing in both cases and it will be necessary to wait for the first week of July for the two operations to be confirmed, due to different issues related to their contract. Escandell has one more year at Granada, but he will not continue with the Nasrid team. Arribas’ relationship with Alcorcón, on the other hand, expires next Thursday. When he definitively leaves the pottery group he will sign for Efesé.
The Valencian goalkeeper, a regular substitute since he joined Granada’s first team, first in the shadow of Rui Silva and in the last year covered by Luis Maximiano, intends to have a leading role and play, so for weeks he has decided on a change of airs and has given its word to Cartagena. He will compete for the starting job with the recently renewed Marc Martinez. Meanwhile, Arribas, the jewel of the Alcorcón academy, will arrive in Cartagena with a background of 110 games and 10 goals. He will occupy the vacancy of Nacho Gil and will want to vindicate himself as Albinegro after having his worst season since he has been in the Second Division (1 goal and 2 assists in an Alcorcón that went down after a horrible year).
