The program includes concerts, theater performances, cinema, exhibitions and guided tours that cover the entire municipality
Concerts, movies, exhibitions, theater, children’s workshops, literary meetings and comedy shows are part of the more than half a thousand activities of the cultural program prepared by the City Council in Cartagena this summer. The plans are varied, there are proposals for all audiences and range from the center of the city to the coast and the inland councils.
“We reaffirm our commitment to culture, decentralization and diversity, consolidating event schedules throughout the municipality,” municipal sources indicated. Its objective is to give each neighbor and each visitor the most varied leisure options.
Apart from the selection of artists and cultural genres, the program stands out because most of the activities are free. Likewise, the commitment to shows for all types of audiences aims to stimulate and promote creativity in Cartagena.
The Department of Culture and Youth, directed by David Martínez, and the Department of Celebrations, led by Juan Pedro Torralba, collaborated in organizing the calendar of events. Both have the supervision of the deputy mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and with the active participation of the technicians responsible for the main festivals and leisure plans planned for the summer.
The program of events includes 88 concerts, 24 film screenings, 14 exhibitions, 6 children’s workshops, 25 literary meetings, 21 theatrical performances, 2 comedy shows and 244 guided tours… “Cartagena will not rest in summer,” Castejón stressed. .
Added to these proposals is the project ‘This is how Summer sounds’, the Alternative Free Time program (T-LA) of the Department of Youth. It offers a total of 132 activities, some of them free, which will also take place between the months of July and September, with which alternative leisure is offered aimed at more than 3,000 young people between 14 and 35 years of age, among which there are routes on horseback through the natural environment of Calblanque, visits to the Cabo de Palos lighthouse and astronomy nights.
The historic center will be one of the locations where there are more cultural proposals. Summer is not just going to the beach. All residents and visitors will find a municipality full of life during July and August”, said Castejón.
In addition, the long-awaited new edition of La Mar de Músicas, dedicated to the Dominican Republic, will take place between the 15th and 23rd of this month, Cartagena will have the Christmas Fort Concert cycle. Likewise, Cartagena Port of Cultures has prepared an extensive calendar of guided tours and routes through its museums and monuments.
Among the artists who will go through the different cycles and show stages are Omara Portuondo, Juan Perro, Jacob Collier, Raimundo Amador, Comandante Lara, Rita Payés, La Oreja de Van Gogh, Medina Azahara and Los Pica Pica.
The theatrical section includes performances of classic works by William Shakespeare, such as ‘King Lear’ and ‘Henry V’, along with amusing skits such as ‘Among fools anda eljuego’.
