According to the Automotive Information Center, customer orders are already close to pre-pandemic levels.
October During Finland, a record number of all-electric cars were registered for the first time.
The number is affected, at least in part, by the fact that no car tax has been paid at all for fully electric cars registered for the first time since the beginning of October. The car tax on all-electric cars was waived in government budget negotiations earlier this fall.
According to the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom), as many as 18 per cent of passenger cars registered for the first time in October were fully electric cars. A record number of 1,193 all-electric cars were registered in October.
18 percent of all new registrations are significantly more than this year’s average. Traficom specialist Juha-Pekka Konttisen according to earlier this year, the percentage has averaged 8.9.
In September, all-electric cars accounted for 11.2 per cent of first registrations. All figures apply to mainland Finland.
“The direction has been upwards throughout the year,” says Konttinen.
Fully electric cars the car tax has been 2.7 percent. According to the Automobile Federation the average car tax on passenger cars has been around 1,500 euros.
In connection with the abolition of the car tax, it was decided to increase the basic vehicle tax on all-electric cars. In Finland, the buyer of an electric car is also offered a purchase subsidy of 2,000 euros, which can be obtained for a car that costs a maximum of 50,000 euros.
According to Juha-Pekka Konttinen, the increased popularity of full electricity is partly explained by the tax relief, but also by the increased supply of car manufacturers and global development.
CEO of the Automotive Information Center Tero Kallion The October record was partly affected by the fact that car dealers and car buyers postponed registration from September to October in pursuit of tax relief.
“The effect was also psychological. People were attracted by the fact that a new car can be registered tax-free in Finland for the first time in decades. ”
According to Kallio, the increased supply also has a big impact on demand.
“There have been a lot of interesting all-electric models from the manufacturers.”
Rock according to the popularity is also reflected in the unpublished figures of November. On Sunday, the market share of all-electric cars had been 14.7 percent.
In addition to registrations, the interest in electric cars is also reflected in the orders, which, according to Tero Kallio, have been made extensively during the autumn.
Electric cars are being ordered even though a global shortage of components is delaying delivery times.
“Customer orders are already very close to pre-Korona levels.”
Although the share of all-electric cars has been growing well, their number of Finland’s total car fleet is still small.
There are about 2.7 million passenger cars in Finland. At the end of September, there were 18,088 all-electric cars.
“Although the growth is strong, this momentum will not quite reach the target of 700,000 electric cars by 2030.”
According to the target set by the working group of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, there should be 700,000 rechargeable cars in Finland by 2030. Most of the cars would be fully electric.
