In Misano no surprises but an exciting race and duel with an infernal pace: Larry Ten Voorde is the first winner of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia season ahead of an indomitable Keagan Masters and an increasingly solid certainty represented by Francesco Braschi.
Ten Voorde opened 2024 by winning race 1 at night from pole position, holding off Simone Iaquinta, who started alongside him, in the first two laps and then Masters for the rest of the 30 minutes + 1 lap of the contest.
The reigning champion is therefore leading the championship with full points also thanks to the two pole positions obtained in the morning, as a result of which he will start in front of everyone again tomorrow (Sunday) in race 2, scheduled at the most suitable time of 12.00 and in live on Dazn, also in free mode, and on www.carreracupitalia.it.
On the front row the Fulgenzi Racing standard-bearer will find Masters himself, with whom he dueled for a long time tonight with fast laps. After overtaking Iaquinta on lap 3 in the Rio area, the official driver of Team Q8 Hi Perform tried to keep up with the leader, even managing to get closer to Ten Voorde by setting three consecutive fast laps which allowed him to get within just 7 tenths of a second on round 6.
The Dutchman, however, responded blow for blow and reopened a minimal gap, which he actually maintained until the end, with a further two faster laps, also pocketing the additional point for the best lap in 1’35″841, time limit set on lap 8.
Behind the two contenders, Braschi also managed to overtake Iaquinta on lap 3, with a surgical braking at the Quercia, who after an excellent starting point on the second lap bent a suspension arm of Prima Ghinzani’s 911 GT3 Cup.
The young standard bearer of Dinamic Motorsport did not have the pace of the fugitives and after half the race he began to manage the situation as best as possible, reaching his first podium in the Carrera Cup, a third place overall which also earned him success in the new Rookie category, where he immediately jumped to the top ahead of Lirim Zendeli.
Behind Braschi, Iaquinta strenuously defended fourth place at the finish line from the attacks of Aldo Festante, who completed the top-5 with a solid performance, bringing further points to Dinamic and preceding Alberto Cerqui, who was also sixth after a very regular race behind the wheel of BeDriver’s 911 GT3 Cup.
Marvin Klein moved up behind the 2021 champion on the last lap. The double French Target Competition champion overtook Zendeli on the last lap, gaining seventh place in an excellent comeback from tenth at the start.
The German standard bearer of Ombra Racing, in his first ever race in GT, was thus left with a useful eighth place, a position which also allows him to collect the points from the second place of the Rookies, while the 18-year-old compatriot Daniel finished third in the category. Gregor, 15th overall with The Driving Experiences.
Returning to the top-10, it is completed by Gianmarco Quaresmini, ninth on his return with the Tsunami team, and Flynt Schuring: the 18-year-old Dutchman completed a super Saturday for Fulgenzi Racing, obtaining tenth place in the first race in the Italian single-brand championship.
Apart from the withdrawal of Cesare Brusa, also in his first race in the Carrera Cup Italia with Prima Ghinznani, after an initial contact with Alex De Giacomi (Tsunami RT), who in turn broke the differential, in the Michelin Cup it happened everything in the final laps.
The poleman and reigning champion Alberto De Amicis was firmly in the lead of the category when the Ebimotors standard bearer ran into contact with Steven Giacon, resulting in both spinning and retiring.
At that point the lead was taken by Luca Pastorelli (Dinamic Motorsport), who in turn took a risk in an episode with Nicholas Pujatti reported as under investigation by the race direction.
Pastorelli in any case managed to cross the finish line and win the category despite a 5 second penalty imposed on him for abuse of track limits, preceding a wild Francesco Fenici, in a great comeback with Raptor Engineering and second with overtaking Al Carro on the last lap on Gianluca Giorgi (BeDriver), also on the final podium and ahead of Paolo Gnemmi (Ebimotors) and the Team Malucelli duo Stefano Stefanelli and Max Montagnese, fifth and sixth respectively.
