It seems like he flies, and he will really do so immediately after race 1 this afternoon to reach the 24 Hours of Nurburgring and shoot a couple of double night stints, but Larry Ten Voorde is actually always well anchored with his feet on the ground.
Even in the repeatedly interrupted qualifying sessions for the second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia this morning, in Imola the reigning champion from Fulgenzi Racing was able to pull the rabbit out of the hat. With great “practical” sense, in fact, paying attention to the point, to find the best possible conditions despite traffic, red flags and less grip than usual.
The time that earned him pole position for race 1 at 3.20pm (live Dazn) is not in fact transcendental (1’43″255, Klein’s 2023 pole was in 43rd and in the Supercup two weeks ago Ten Voorde dropped to 42nd “4), but the result “remains the same”, Zeppelin would sing, that is, it remains the same: he is always ahead of everyone and his direct rivals are once again forced to chase him.
Precisely on the weekend in which he also chose to participate in the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring and the competition should make the most of it, because in any case managing two events of this kind is no small feat. But he, always with practical sense, doesn’t bat an eyelid and relies on his great experience in the world of the 911 GT3 Cup, as well as on a truly high level physical and mental preparation.
Furthermore, the Nurburgring represents excellent training in view of a 2025 which will see him increasingly involved in the world of endurance racing. In short, nothing is left to chance in the possibilities that arise, which Ten Voorde always tries to transform into opportunities: “It’s important to start from the front row but, honestly, I’m a ‘racer’, and when I feel we can improve then we improve, this is the way forward for perfection. And we’re certainly enjoying this pole a bit”.
Given your nightly commitment at the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring, perhaps here in Imola the pole for race 2 tomorrow is even more important than the pole for race 1 today?
“Why? (joking, ed.) it’s good to be on pole every day! However, I think tomorrow I will be a little more tired so in the meantime let’s go for today’s pole.”
In such a complex qualification, how did you manage it?
“Honestly, it wasn’t easy at all. For everyone, I think. The track was very slippery, there were several exits, we did the best we could and in the end I was surprised by the double pole we achieved. I’m really happy with the result, also for the team, we made it once again when it could have easily been a P5 or P6 precisely because it was very difficult, between the gravel on the track, no grip and the interruptions.”
