If in the absolute Ten Voorde remains the clear favourite, in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia the cards continue to be shuffled in the Michelin Cup, a category in which even after race 1 of the second round held yesterday in Imola it is truly impossible to make predictions and the ranking is shortens further.
Fourth and fifth respectively at the finish line, at the top of the standings Luca Pastorelli (Dinamic Motorsport) caught up with Francesco Fenici (Raptor Engineering), while on the podium the festival of the new was celebrated with the long-awaited first victory of Paolo Gnemmi, poleman in the opportunity and solid protagonist in the race with the 911 GT3 Cup of Ebimotors, a team in which on the side of Alberto De Amicis as in Misano they had to do it all over again in race 2 after yesterday’s retirement.
However, the “front page” belongs to the teammate on the first step of the podium: “The victory has finally arrived – said Gnemmi last night –. I’m very happy with this premiere. The race was clean. I started well and apart from a little at the beginning, when I took a hit on the rear from I don’t know who during the excited phases of the start, it was rather ‘calm’. There are always Pros to ‘manage’ when you’re in front in the Michelin Cup, but I kept my pace, also taking advantage of the brawls behind me and handled the restart phases from the safety cars well. Let’s say that I made up for the failed victory at Mugello last year, when I spun with a lap and a half to go, it was a gap to fill”.
If the certainty remains Gianluca Giorgi, second in race 1 and already on his second podium of the season with BeDriver and therefore also in full contention for the 2024 title, the other unprecedented event on Saturday in Imola belongs to Cesare Brusa, who in his debut season in the Italian single-brand championship with Prima, Ghinzani grabbed his first personal podium right at the last corner, when he won the duel with Alex De Giacomi, who ended up spinning at Rivazza 2 and like De Amicis was also forced to make a comeback in the standings.
“Slowly I’m starting to understand the car – declared Brusa –. In fact, this was my second race, because in Misano in race 2 I covered 100 metres, through my own fault. I’m quite happy but we can do better. I still lack experience on rear-wheel drive cars and these first appearances are difficult. We’ll definitely think about the championship, but we’ll think about it race by race, test by test, we’ll make it one step at a time! In the team we have an exchange of information and data which for me above all is fundamental and then it’s a big family and the help comes from everyone, I’m happy with how it’s going.”
To recap the situation, this is currently the 2024 Michelin Cup ranking ahead of race 2 today at midday: Fenici and Pastorelli 33 points; Gnemmi 29; Giorgi 26; Brusa 18; 6. De Amicis 14.
