He may not have won the championship but Alessandro Giardelli certainly had a full season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italy, which culminated with his first success in Monza yesterday in race 1 in the wet. Really the best way to crown a 2021 that for the 19-year-old from Lecco of Dinamic Motorsport does not only mean being the runner-up behind Alberto Cerqui (and helping the team to win the Team title).
In the always thankless task of choosing only one by the manager Andrea Boldrini, the other instructors and the staff of the Carrera Cup Italia, the last Sunday of the season also sealed Giardelli’s nomination for the Scholarship Program. A “victory” that will lead him to compete with other young people from the various national Carrera Cups at the Porsche International Shoot Out.
“For me it is a great honor – declared the very young driver from Colico –, it has been a great season. We even went beyond expectations, a pity only for today in race 2, but we are proud of this result. “
Saturday’s performance undoubtedly affected Giardelli’s nomination, when in the most difficult conditions (and after the pole position already conquered in the morning) he had no rivals for the victory, reopening the championship and climbing on the first step after many podiums to look at it from a little further down.
From the Scholarship Program comes the eventual wild card designated for Italy (in recent years it has happened twice to have 2 representatives at the international “youth final”), that of Marzio Moretti, now second in race 2 and in battle he too long for the championship despite some unfortunate episodes during the season, his second with Bonaldi Motorsport ended in fourth place in the overall.
