Simone Iaquinta is back and without losing even a bit of his proverbial bite. It took the Castrovillari driver a few seconds to walk on his own legs after the terrible accident that had seen him protagonist together with Giammarco Levorato outside the Tamburello during race 2 of the third round of the Carrera Cup Italia in Imola two Sundays ago .
The defending champion had been able to immediately get out of the cockpit on his own and get back on his feet. As well as the Paduan rookie, making everyone breathe a good sigh of relief. Later, in the light of some tests, in Iaquinta, however, three micro fractures of the vertebrae were found in particular.
The general picture has never been serious, but it certainly posed an unknown factor about a quick recovery of the driver of DInamic Motorsport, so much so that Ale Giardelli immediately replaced him in the Porsche Supercup round held in Hungary on Sunday 1 August.
In the meantime, last Friday Iaquinta had already been successfully operated on by Professor Andrea Piazzolla, head of the vertebral surgery department of the Bari Polyclinic, where he had been transferred. After 20 minutes Iaquinta was on his feet and even yesterday (Thursday, so just 10 days after the crash) he returned to the wheel of the 911 GT3 Cup.
Few laps in Monza and perfectly recovered mechanisms, given that even the chronometric results, according to him, were more than positive and, above all, competitive. At the end of the month he will return to action in the Supercup on stage at Spa, regaining his seat regularly. Simone’s determination also remained unchanged, as reigning champion expressed regret for what happened in Imola and remarked on the fact that he contested the penalty that was inflicted on him (30 positions to be served on his next grid in Carrera Cup Italia) later on. to the incident with Levorato.
“I do not accept the penalty they have imposed on me – he has declared the two-time champion of the Porsche Italia series –; unfortunately the judges judged without hearing me. I know the dynamics of our cars and I know very well where I was, among other things at very high speeds. I didn’t want to close Levorato. I just didn’t see it in the mirrors anymore, evidently because of the blind spot, and I thought I had passed it. I certainly never wanted to cause such an accident “.
