Gameloft Announces Carmen Sandiego Reboot: the return of a classic, coming in 2025 to PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobile, the latter early (first quarter) and free for Netflix subscribers.
“In this game you won’t find yourself chasing Carmen: you will be Carmen“, Gameloft explained to IGN. “Switching from being the pursuer to playing as the protagonist offers a fresh take on gameplay, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in her world of espionage and globe-trotting adventures.”
“The other character seen at the beginning of the trailer is ‘Player’ from the Netflix series, a reference to the live action character from the 1994 animated series ‘Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?’ Player here plays the role of Carmen’s sidekick, meaning that you will be able to experience the adventure from Carmen’s perspective with Player assisting you during missions, solving puzzles and defeating VILE agents.”
A welcome return
After having created Asphalt Legends Unite and Disney Speedstorm, Gameloft has decided to dedicate its energies to the return of a classic with Carmen Sandiego, and the premises are those of a product designed for those nostalgic for the series.
“The game will include all the detective fun of the original game, where you collected clues and tracked down VILE agents around the world, combined with a new exploration phase of the cities,” Gameloft added.
“We’ve also introduced a classic mode called ‘The Acme Files,’ which is a heartfelt homage to the Carmen Sandiego games of the 80s. Nostalgics and fans of the Netflix series alike will find Easter eggs and surprises that we can’t wait for them to discover.”
