President of the TSE praises electronic voting machines and says that there is “nothing significant” in the occurrences of the electoral process
The president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), minister Cármen Lúcia, stated in the early afternoon of this Sunday (6.Oct.2024) that, so far, the elections are “peaceful”. When talking about the normality of the electoral process, the judge said that “nothing significant” had been registered.
“All the measures that were adopted, regarding security, voter security, the arrival of the ballot boxes properly at the locations, everything that was previously adopted has now proven its effects”he told journalists upon arriving at the CDE (Election Disclosure Center), at the headquarters of the Electoral Court, in Brasília.
According to the minister, there was no “practically” no change. She stated that only 0.3% of the total number of electronic voting machines had to be replaced due to problems.
The president of the Electoral Court also praised the equipment. “Reliable, safe, broad participation, everything open, open place”he said. The minister participated in a check of the devices in the capital Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais, where she voted in the morning.
The judge also spoke about the difficulty of voting in certain locations. According to her, TSE members feared that some voters in the North region would not be able to reach the electoral zones due to the absence of roads in some locations – however, according to her, the fear was not confirmed.
PROBLEMS WITH THE E-TITLE
The e-Título application presented instability for the electorate to justify their absence from voting in the 1st round of the municipal elections this Sunday (Oct 6).
Users have reported some crashes. An error message appears for people who try to click on the “Absence Justification” option within the “More options” menu in the app.
According to the minister, the situation has already been resolved. Cármen stated that the instability occurred because, early in the morning, many people accessed the application at the same time, which caused there to be a “it takes longer” in the answer.
According to a bulletin released by the TSE, a peak of 7,600 hits per second was recorded at 8:02 am.
