The president of the Regional Tourism Board urges that unions and employers reach a beneficial agreement for workers
The president of the Regional Tourism Board and the Association of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation of Murcia (Ashomur), Carmen Ayala, urges that unions and employers sign the hotel agreement as soon as possible. “It is necessary that an agreement be reached as soon as possible to favor the workers and the tourism sector of the Region itself,” she remarks. “This agreement is something very sensitive for all the parties involved, and the dust that has been generated in recent weeks has caused great discomfort,” she adds.
The association chaired by Ayala has not been involved in the negotiations of the aforementioned agreement. «Yes, we have been represented by HoyTú, although we do not like the way things have been done so far. We must put an end to this controversy », he explains. In his opinion, “the hotel industry agreement has to come immediately, and through unilateral actions. All parties must go hand in hand, walk in the same direction, sit down to iron out the rough edges and finalize each of the points of the agreement. Everything in a consensual way and through dialogue always ». Ayala emphasizes that “unions need to sit down with employers to negotiate and reach an agreement that benefits hotel workers and the tourism sector in general.”
Remember that, “so far, everything Ashomur has done has been through legal channels.” Regarding the agreement signed by the Tourist Federation of the Costa Cálida (Fedetur), he maintains that this organization “intended to reach an agreement with the aim of benefiting a group of associates, and that has generated a lot of controversy in the sector, although I think that what was done was not done with a bad intention, but it has given a negative image. Therefore, Ayala admits that “it is time to do self-criticism.”
«Fedetur did not have negotiating capacity because it was not registered in the registry. And HoyTú is the employer’s association in which the negotiation capacity of the hotel industry agreement rests, together with Hostecar. These organizations are the ones that have to endorse that agreement. What is not good for anyone is that everything has been stagnant and stopped for fourteen years.
Regarding tomorrow’s meeting between councilor Marcos Ortuño and the unions, the president of Ashomur maintains that she has not yet received an invitation from the Community to participate in the meeting. “If the Ministry calls us, we will be happy to participate to contribute our grain of sand and put an end to this situation,” she says.
CC OO and UGT meet tomorrow with the councilor Marcos Ortuño
The representatives of the Workers’ Commissions and the UGT will meet tomorrow with the Minister of Tourism, Marcos Ortuño, “to explain everything that has happened weeks ago,” assured the secretary general of the CC OO, Santiago Navarro. According to sources from the regional department, “it is a meeting requested by the unions. It is not the first time that they meet with Ortuño since he holds the Tourism competitions. The appointment is part of the regular and daily activity of the Ministry, in which contacts with the tourism sector are constant. Counselor Ortuño will attend with the willingness to listen and dialogue with the unions.
At the moment, businessmen are not expected to attend. The president of the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs, Jesús Jiménez, assured that they have not summoned the employers for this appointment.
From CC OO they insist that, “if an agreement is not reached soon, mobilizations will be carried out from the month of September”.
