Javier Eduardo López, popularly known as ‘Chofis’, is having the best campaign of his career as a professional footballer. After leaving Chivas de Guadalajara through the back door, the attacker has found consistency and constancy under the orders of Matías Almeyda in the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer (MLS). Throughout the season, the Mexican forward has gone from less to more and is helping his team fight to enter the playoffs.
During the current season of American football, ‘Chofis’ López adds 27 games played and eleven goals in his account, without being a center forward. The San Jose Earthquakes striker is 13th on the scoring chart and has scored more times than figures like Johnny Russell, Gonzalo Higuaín, Josef Martínez, Alan Pulido, Ezequiel Barco and Carlos Vela himself.
The former player of the Sacred Rebaño, precisely, would be close to breaking a record set by Vela during his first season in MLS. In 2018, in his debut season in the United States, Vela, who came from Real Sociedad, scored 14 goals.
‘Chofis’ López has 11 touchdowns at the moment with six games remaining, so he would be close to matching or surpassing Carlos Vela’s mark if he maintains the pace he has shown in the last month.
Currently San Jose Earthquakes is in tenth position in the MLS Western Conference, so it would be out of the playoffs. In the remaining games, Matías Almeyda’s team will have to press to avoid consummating a new failure.
