The Government decreed two days of national mourning throughout the country for the death of Senator Carlos Alberto Reutemann, who died this Wednesday in a clinic in Santa Fe.
“Declare a National Mourning throughout the territory of the Argentine Republic for a period of two days from the date of the date, on the occasion of the death of the national senator Carlos Alberto Reutemann”, reads the Decree 446/2021, published this Thursday in the Official Gazette.
Through the decree signed by President Alberto Fernández, together with the Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero, and the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro, condolences were also conveyed to the family of the former Formula One driver.
“During the days of mourning the National Flag will remain hoisted at half mast in all public buildings “, it was specified in the regulations.
In the fundamentals it was pointed out that “between 1972 and 1982, Reutemann served as F1 driver, representing the Brabham, Ferrari, Lotus and Williams teams, among others, achieving his first Grand Prix in the Republic of South Africa, in 1974 and obtaining twelve grand prizes throughout his career, which led him to the runner-up from the year 1981 “.
Likewise, the decree indicated that in 1991, the Santa Fe began his political activity in the Justicialista Party, being elected governor of his province natal in the period 1991-1995.
“Later, he decided to apply for National Senator, a position he held until 1999, being also elected Conventional Constituent for the Reform of the National Constitution, in 1994 “, was outlined in the decree.
In 1999, Reutemann acceded to his second term as governor of Santa Fe, a position he held until 2003, when he was again elected to occupy a seat in the Senate and reelected several times to date, his term expiring on 9 December 2021.
The presidential decree highlighted that “for his career”, the senator is recognized by the National State. “By virtue of this, it is a duty of the National Government honor the memory of Carlos Alberto Reutemann, on the occasion of his death, “he transmitted.
