The president of the PDT national directory, Carlos Lupi, 65 years old, announced this Thursday (29.Dec.2022) that he will be Minister of Social Security in the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).
Lupi is a former deputy and was Minister of Labor and Employment from 2007 to 2011, during the governments of Lula and Dilma Rousseff (PT). The announcement was made by the future minister on Twitter.
The future minister was nominated by the PDT to participate in the next government. The party supported Lula in the second round of this year’s presidential elections. In the 1st round, he had Ciro Gomes as a candidate. He ended up in 4th place, with 3.04% of the valid votes, equivalent to 3,599,287 votes.
The legend should only have 1 ministry, but will decide in the future its participation in other spaces of the 2nd echelon and in public agencies.
Currently, Social Security is part of the Ministry of Labor. The two areas will be separated in the next administration. the elected deputy Luiz Marinho (PT) was announced as the holder of Trabalho e Emprego.
Lupi holds a degree in business administration from the Faculty of the Educational Center of Niterói. He has been a member of the PDT since 1980, the same year he met Leonel Brizola. He was general coordinator of the Southern Administrative Regions of the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro from 1983 to 1987. He was elected federal deputy in 1990 and 1st alternate for Senator Saturnino Braga in 1998.
He assumed the presidency of the PDT after Brizola’s death in 2004 and ran for governor of Rio de Janeiro in 2006, but was not elected.
In March 2007, he took over the Ministry of Labor and Employment in Lula’s 2nd government and was maintained by Dilma Rousseff in the position until 2011. 09% of the votes.
