The auction house Bonhams will organize an auction dedicated to motorcycling in Civita Castellana, in the province of Viterbo, on 1-3 April 2022, thanks to the participation of the museum Motion of Myths, created by the founder of the Althea Racing team Genesio Bevilacqua. There will be over 100 two-wheelers up for auction, with some valuable pieces that have made the history of motorcycle racing.
27 of these bikes come directly from Bevilacqua’s collection, perfectly overhauled and ‘ready’ to race. And the highlight among these is definitely the two-wheeler in the cover photo, the Ducati 1098 of 2010 driven by Carlos Checa. The following year Checa, with the Althea team, won 15 victories and six podium finishes: he finished the championship with 110 points more than the runner-up, Marco Melandri.
Last July Carlos Checa returned to his Ducati to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the title won with a historic model, as the last twin-cylinder Ducati to win the world championship before the arrival of the Panigale V4. And the last Ducati to win the title before a real Kawasaki domination.
“I am happy and proud to collaborate with Bonhams to bring to Italy their first auction dedicated to motorcycles and the history of motorcycles, in which Italy has always played a vital role. Moto dei Miti is undoubtedly the best location to host this great event. Bonhams’ legacy and professionalism will attract the attention of international collectors and play an important role in growing the motorcycle collector market for the past 50 years.“Declared Bevilacqua.
There will also be on sale a Ducati 1198 from 2012, ex Davide Giugliano. The bike is equipped with a 1,198.4 cm³ 4-stroke L-twin engine, with double overhead camshaft with desmodromic control and 4 valves per cylinder (distribution) and Weber-Marelli “Multipoint” electronic injection with throttle body and elliptical ducts . The empty mass is 168 kilos. The tires are 120/70-ZR17 on rims with a 3.5 ″ channel at the front; 190/55-ZR17 on 6 ″ rear rim rims. The front suspension is based on a 43 mm Öhlins inverted fork, while the rear one is a single-sided suspension with fully adjustable monoshock (also Öhlins).
