The player from El Palmar makes his debut tomorrow in the Hurlingham exhibition tournament and will repeat on Saturday; Nadal debuts today against the Helvetian
The big favorites to win the third Grand Slam of the season at Wimbledon will face each other starting today at the Hurlingham exhibition tournament. Among the participants there will be two Spaniards, the two who are currently in the top 10 of the men’s ranking, Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. The tennis players will try to shoot and get a good feeling ahead of the biggest tournament on grass, which will be played from Monday 27 to 12 July.
Nadal opens today against the Swiss Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss trained yesterday with the Murcian, who jumped onto the track with a protection on his right elbow, discomfort that has prevented the tennis player from El Palmar from playing the Queens tournament. The other duel of the Balearic will be on Friday against the Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime. Nadal played the Hurlingham exhibition for the last time in 2019 and in that edition he reached the Wimbledon semifinals. Rafa has not played a grass-court tournament other than Wimbledon on the grass-court tour since 2015, and he has had to plan his schedule very well due to injuries.
SEEDS AT WIMBLEDON
Carlos Alcaraz, for his part, will play tomorrow against an opponent yet to be known, and on Saturday he will have to face the Norwegian Casper Ruud. Djokovic, the other big favorite to win at Wimbledon, debuts today against the Canadian Aliassime and on Friday it is still to be confirmed who will be his opponent.
All matches will kick off at 3:30 p.m. Spanish time (2:30 p.m. local time). Nadal will play both days in the first shift and Alcaraz will have his first match in the second shift tomorrow.
fifth favorite
Wimbledon yesterday announced the names of the 10 men’s tennis players and 10 women’s tennis players who will be seeded at the tournament. The main novelties are in a men’s team in which the absences of Daniil Medvedev stand out due to the veto of the organization’s Russian athletes and Zverev, injured in the Roland-Garros semifinals. With these casualties, Djokovic will occupy number 1 and Nadal number 2. Ruud and Tsitsipas complete the top four positions and, behind them, a Carlos Alcaraz who dreams of following his great moment on the London grass. Felix Auger-Aliassime, Hubert Hurkacz, Berrettini, Cameron Norrie and Jannik Sinner complete this list.
The women’s draw is led by current No. 1 Iga Swiatek, followed by Kontaveit, Jabeur, Pula Badosa, Sakkari, Pliskova, Collins, Pegula, Muguruza and Raducanu.
