The dessert represents one of the Murcian’s favorite places: a tennis court
The tributes to Carlos Alcaraz do not stop happening. The brand new winner of the US Open, his first Grand Slam, which also allowed him to become the youngest number 1 in history. There have been many who surrender at his feet for everything the tennis player has achieved at just 19 years old. However, perhaps one of the most striking signs of affection comes from the gastronomic sector.
Alcaraz has been the inspiration for pastry chef Andrés Mármol Tovar, from El Palmar, the tennis player’s town, to create a dessert that represents one of Murcia’s favorite places: a tennis court. An idea that Mármol says arose when they began to work “with a tennis ball shape and it immediately reminded me of Carlos, before he began to have such an impact and was number 1.”
This sweet consists of a white chocolate mousse, in the shape of a tennis ball, which at its core has a creamy milk chocolate origin, where there is an infusion of citrus fruits and a little toasted butter biscuit. All this on a base composed of a crunchy caramel, candied orange and a little hazelnut praline, which simulates clay. Finally, the dessert is crowned with a 70% chocolate racket on whose handle is written ‘Carlitos’, the well-known nickname of Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil.

A product that its creator assures is “very refreshing in which all the nuances give rise to a light and pleasant dessert for the palate” and that he wanted it to be “very commercial and to appeal to all audiences, both children and adults », In addition, apart from the tribute to Carlos Alcaraz, it also includes an allusion to the Region of Murcia, with the addition of citrus fruits.
This sweet can be tasted at the La Gloria de Andrés Mármol pastry shop, located on Pintor Pedro Cano Avenue in El Palmar, Alcaraz’s hometown, and which was opened two years ago. However, this business has more than 25 years of professional experience. In addition, Ángel Mármol Tovar is the second generation of pastry chefs in the family, since his father, with whom he shares a name, was the one who founded the brand, who has received several awards for his work, one of the most outstanding being his victory in the Infanta Leonor cake contest.
As its creator says, the dessert has been well received by the clientele. “Being a global phenomenon right now, we are asked about him every day. In addition, its characteristic shape makes it much more attractive to consumers.” Although the protagonist has not yet tried it, «his parents think so. So I hope he likes it when he does it.”
