he is in Valencia because he wants to represent Spain in the Davis Cup, group stage that begins today at the Fuente de San Luis. Accompanied by Juan Carlos Ferrero, his coach, and his entire team, Carlos Alcaraz is surprised by the leaden day. He sticks out his hand after going outside to see if it rains. There, ex-tennis player David Ferrer, current director of the Davis Cup, awaits him, a retinue of five cars, which when leaving for the hotel are escorted by the National Police. Today he will not jump on the track to train with the rest of his teammates. He will dedicate the day to treatment by physiotherapists and to rest. He is already at the hotel, where he has signed autographs for everyone who was at the gate of the venue.
But before leaving the airport, he attends to the press. He is of few words, but he is proud of what he has achieved. “I am very happy with everything that has happened to me,” says the Murcian. Alcaraz has not yet woken up from the dream, of being at the top of world tennis. “It is an honor to be number one. It is a dream and the truth is that I am very happy. There is a lot of work behind. It is a great joy to know that there are so many people supporting me, that there are people behind me in every game. It is an enormous pride to be able to represent Spain on all sides and Murcia, ”says the tennis player raised in the Juan Carlos Ferrero academy in Villena.
The competition begins today with Canada-Korea, but Spain will debut tomorrow. This will be the first key appointment. Starting at 4:00 p.m., La Fonteta will see a Spain-Serbia match. It will be the first decision of Bruguera and Alcaraz. Whether to debut this day or wait for the games on Friday and Sunday.
