The Murcian tennis player falls in his first contact on this surface against a rival with much more shooting (6-4 and 6-2)
Carlos Alcaraz began his journey on the London grass this Thursday with a defeat against the American Frances Tiafoe (6-4, and 6-2). A first contact in the form of an exhibition that took place at the exclusive Hurlingham tennis club, where the Murcian and other tennis players such as Rafa Nadal are speeding up their preparation before starting to compete at the All England Club, where on June 27 Wimbledon kicks off.
Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil adds his second defeat against Tiafoe, after the one suffered in the Godó in 2021, in a duel in which the American knew how to take advantage of his greatest shooting on grass, since he has played both the Queen’s tournament like that of Eastborune, although until now it had only added defeats on this surface.
Alcaraz knew how to recover in the first set from an inopportune ‘break’ with 3-3 on the scoreboard and recovered the service with a break in the next game, but the Murcian gave up his serve again in the ninth game and the American did not forgive, closing the sleeve with his service.
More decanted was the second set, in which Tiafoe imposed his rhythm from the beginning with a ‘break’ in the first game from which Alcaraz did not recover. With 2-4 on the scoreboard, the world number 28 broke the Murcian’s serve again and sentenced the match with his service in the next game. The tennis player from El Palmar will play a new exhibition match against Casper Ruud next Saturday before playing his second Wimbledon.
