The Murcian prepares his debut in the Davis Cup in Marbella
The tennis player from El Palmar, Carlos Alcaraz, climbed one place in the ATP ranking and reached a new peak in his career by placing 19th in the ATP ranking, despite not having played during the last week, since, after winning the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, he resigned from playing in Acapulco due to some discomfort in his right elbow.
The appearance of Carlos Alcaraz in the top 19 occurs in a week with significant changes in the ranking, as Daniil Medvedev ousted Novak Djokovic at the top -8,615 points for the Russian against 8,465 for the Serbian- and the Spanish Rafa Nadal, winner in Acapulco, he moved up one place to fourth with 6,515 behind German Alexander Zverev, third with 7,515. The Spaniard surpassed the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, now fifth with 6,445.
Carlos Alcaraz is already preparing his return to action in Marbella. It will be this week, on March 4 and 5, when he will debut in the Davis Cup. The Murcian is part of the Spanish team that will face Romania in the qualifying round for the final phase. Alcaraz will be able to make up for his loss in last year’s tournament, since he tested positive for Covid in the previous one.
