Sales of new cars registered a drop of 8.4% in July compared to the same month in 2020. According to a balance released today (3) by the National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave), 123,600 were registered in July automobiles, while in July last year sales reached 134,900 units.
The result was the worst for a month of July since 2005, according to Fenabrave. According to the organization, the lack of cars at dealerships is due to problems with shortages of parts and components.
In the first seven months of the year, however, car sales are still high compared to 2020, registering growth of 20.2% and registration of 927.7 thousand units.
Sales of new vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks and light commercial vehicles, registered an increase of 10.9% in July compared to the same month in 2020, with a license plate of 309.4 thousand units. From January to July, the increase is 33.7% compared to the first seven months of last year, with the sale of 2 million units.
Motorcycle sales recorded a 32% increase in July compared to the same month in 2020, with the license plate of 112.6 thousand units. In the first seven months of the year, the two-wheel segment grew by 44.6% with the license plate of 629.9 thousand motorcycles.
“The result for the month of July was not better due to the lack of products. But we note that demand remains high and motorcycle license plates are still in full recovery, as they are consolidated as vehicles for transporting people and express cargo”, highlighted the president of Fenabrave, Alarico Assumpção Júnior.
Truck sales grew 20.8%, with the sale of 11.4 thousand units in July. In the accumulated from January to July, the high reaches 47.6% compared to the same period in 2020, with sales of 69,500 units.
Fenabrave’s projection is that car sales this year will grow 10.9%, with the sale of 1.7 million units. The estimate is below the forecast made earlier this year that car sales would grow 15.4% this year compared to 2020.
For trucks, the federation expects a 30.5% increase in sales this year and for motorcycles a growth of 16.2% compared to 2020.
