Mexico City.- Car production and export figures show a moderation in their growth rate in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Although the production of light vehicles slowed at an annual rate of 6.13 percent from January to September 2024, compared to 13.71 percent last year, the indicator recorded its highest volume in at least 20 years in comparable periods.
3 million 30 thousand 855 units were produced in Mexico from January to September. Meanwhile, in the first nine months of 2024, 2,591,467 were exported, 7.05 percent more than in the same period of the previous year when the rate was 14.02 percent.
During January-September 2024, one million 79,413 light vehicles were sold, which meant an increase of 10.53 percent annually from 25.03 percent the previous year, without change compared to the advance given by the Institute at midweek.
When considering only September, sales to the public in the domestic market of light vehicles fell 1.45 percent to 116,543 units, being their first setback in 28 months at an annual rate. Car production, meanwhile, improved its progress, as it grew 11.71 percent annually in September to 378,583 from 8.27 percent in August. This production became the highest for a month since October 2017, when it stood at 382,110 units. For its part, vehicle exports amounted to 315,706 units in September, a volume that implied an annual increase of 4.77 percent, improving the figure reported in August of 1.68 percent. This morning, Inegi released the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL), whose information comes from 23 companies affiliated with the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), as well as four non-affiliated companies. .
