A parking space, adjacent to the famous Vondel Park, the largest green space in Amsterdam, was offered for sale for nearly half a million euros, a price that shocked the Netherlands.
The Dutch media organization RTL reported that the parking space, offered for 495,000 euros on the Funda real estate website, is the most expensive parking space in the country.
This parking space is 18 square metres, according to the advertisement published by the real estate agency J. Heule, and is located in a gated complex and “on the most famous and exclusive shopping street in the Netherlands.”
The parking lot, located on B Street, can also be rented. bad. PC Hooftstraat, close to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museums, for 750 euros per month.
This announcement caused a shock in the country, which is severely suffering from a housing crisis, as the asking price for this parking lot exceeds the average housing price in the Netherlands, which amounts to 430,000 euros, according to a report published at the end of 2023.
Another study in the same year indicated a shortage of about 390,000 housing units in the Netherlands, which has one of the highest population density rates in Europe.
Amsterdam also did not include any housing available for people living alone with middle income in 2023, according to the Hypotheker website.
In addition to high prices, RTL noted that many parking spaces in city centers in the Netherlands have been closed to make these areas less attractive for cars.
The authority noted that parking lots “are becoming more and more rare. Therefore, their value is increasing, but such a place is of course not worth half a million euros.”
However, the real estate agency J. Heule disagreed with this opinion, pointing out that the neighborhood, where houses are sold for millions of euros, is also full of apartments and expensive cars.
