There are just a few hours left until the official launch of the 2024 car incentives. Reservations will open at 10am on 3 June through the dedicated ministerial portal, where the purchase documents for cars that fall within the parameters of the new ecobonus will be uploaded. It will be a race against time for dealers who have signed agreements with future customers, with the 61-135 g/km CO2 range likely to be sold out first. The incentives will also be valid on car purchases made from May 25th, the day on which the relevant decree came into force.
Price is key
As always, a fundamental condition in choosing the new car will be the list price: to be included in the 2024 ecobonus the cost must be below 42,700 euros (including VAT) if it is an electric vehicle or one with emissions lower than 61 grams /km while for plug-in hybrids it can reach up to 54,900 euros.
How the new incentives work
The three bands for emissions always remain the same, with the brackets ranging from 0 to 20 g/km of CO2 (electric cars and some PHEVs), from 21 to 60 g/km of CO2 (plug-in hybrid) and finally from 61 to 135 g/km km of CO2 (PHEV, mild-hybrid, full hybrid, petrol, diesel, LPG, methane). The Government has allocated around 1 billion euros which, unless exhausted, will be available to motorists until 31 December 2024. What changes, however, is the greater discount in the event that the emissions class of the car to be scrapped is low: for one Euro 0 or a Euro 2 with an ISEE of less than 30,000 euros, you can have up to 13,750 euros in incentives if you choose an electric or a vehicle that falls into the 0-20 g/km range (11,000 euros for those with a higher ISEE). In the 21-60 range, however, the discount is 10,000 euros and 8,000 euros respectively (always for Euro 0-2) while it remains 3,000 euros for both cases in the 61-135 g/km bracket. Moving on instead to the Euro 3, in this case they range from 10,000 or 12,500 euros for the 0-20 range, from 6,000 or 7,500 euros for 21-60 and 2,000 euros for the 61-135 range. Finally, those who scrap a Euro 4, with 9 or 11,250 for the first bracket, 5,500 or 6,875 euros for the second and 1,500 euros for the third. Finally, for Euro 5, only those with an ISEE of less than 30,000 euros will be able to obtain an 8,000 euro discount for the first band and 5,000 euros for the second band. Finally, in the event that a car is not scrapped, there are 6,000 euros of ecobonus for the 0-20 g/km range for low ISEEs and 7,500 euros for those who do not fall into this category while for the 21-60 g/km range km the bonus can be 4,000 or 5,000 euros. However, there is no relief for the last band.
