It’s clear that video games are one of the largest and most successful entertainment industries in recent times, and it’s evident that there are all kinds of titles with a world of stories and experiences.
The video game industry has been present in entertainment for years and there are several projects that could have been incredible and perfect, but sadly they were cancelled due to lack of budget, poor organization, easier ideas or bad corporate arguments.
It’s time to look back at several video game projects that looked very promising and were cancelled despite the fact that there was already a captive audience waiting for them.
5 Lost Video Games That Would Have Been Awesome To See
Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned
It is a fact that the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are one of Disney’s top box office hits, and that although there are already other video games about these pirates, what Armada of the Damned proposed at the time was very different from what other games of these sailors offered.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned It was going to feature a huge amount of very interesting elements, such as customizing your character’s appearance, personality, improving their combat skills; and what comments to make, which would allow you to choose your path when doing a mission, earn or lose coins or even affect or improve your reputation as a pirate.
The game would offer a huge open world, full of islands with treasures, towns, mysteries and many battles inside or outside your ship, with which you could have explored the seas and all their secrets.
Unfortunately for us fans who got excited about this fantastic idea back in 2010, the game was cancelled months later due to a restructuring of Disney’s video game department, leaving us with only a cinematic trailer and some unpolished bits of gameplay from the game.

Gotham by Gaslight
The title of Gotham by Gaslight Before being part of a video game, it belonged to a comic released in the 90s from the saga known as “Elseworlds”, in which the DC protagonists are taken to alternative realities of themselves in many curious and interesting universes.
In this comic, Batman exists in a European city called Gotham in the year 1889, where he is accused of murder crimes that were actually committed by Jack the Ripper himself. His adventure focuses on finding the culprit and proving his innocence.
DC and the creators of FEAR 3 They teamed up to create a game based on that comic, but it was cancelled, leaving us with only a few images and a few pieces of very incomplete gameplay.

Among Us 2
How can we forget Among Us, that game that brought us so much joy and good time with friends during those times of confinement in the pandemic of 2020, when the game gained massive popularity overnight, becoming one of the most played multiplayer video games in history in just a few months.
To be honest, Among Us It didn’t have enough content to entertain a community of millions of people for years, so it wasn’t crazy to think about developing a sequel, because as the creators said, the game’s base code was more than obsolete and was difficult to update.
In the end, even though InnerSloth confirmed the development of the second part, they cancelled this project overnight, deciding to concentrate on the original, a decision that in our opinion was certainly correct but strange.
We don’t know much about the content it would have, but it was known that it would be a complete improvement to the game, but in terms of new mechanics, nothing was known.

Insomniac Games’ open-world Superman game
Warner Bros. has been trying to create the perfect title for this superhero for a lifetime, especially since the release of video games like Marvel Spider-Man for PlayStation, where it is said that they even considered hiring Insomniac Games itself to develop it, however it is said that they refused because they preferred their contract with Marvel.
The problem that DC and Warner have with Superman for this type of game is the same as in the comics themselves, because the superhero is broken; so it is very difficult to design fun, interesting video games that are affordable and can adapt the impressive powers that the Kryptonian has within an open world.

Star Wars game from Visceral Games
Visceral Games, developers of video games such as Dead Space, had the difficult task of creating the next big Star Wars game, which internally among the developers they nicknamed Ragtag.
Ragtag was reportedly a third-person shooter that was being overseen by Uncharted series writer Amy Henning.
This is one of those video games that looked promising, even because it had a well-established setting, right during the events of Episode IV.
The joke is that we were going to use a team of outlaws in the purest Han Solo style, even making the story fit into the canon of the original trilogy.
Now, the problems with Visceral Games began with Battlefield Hardline, which led to the departure of one of the studio’s leaders. Eventually, with the change in leadership and then the reduction in staff, the development of this new Star Wars title was taking a very complicated path.
To address the staff shortage, Jade Redmon, who worked on the early Assassin’s Creed games, created Motive Studio to support Visceral, but with expectations out of line, work simply wasn’t getting done, despite plenty of creative freedom from Disney and Lucasfilm.
Star Wars Battlefront, EA’s first game under the license, proved to be such a hit that Motive was moved to work on Battlefront II, leaving Visceral even more out of the loop. After a demo that was subject to approval, it was decided that the game wasn’t going to go ahead.
Of this Visceral project, only a new project remained from Skydance New Media, led by Amy Henning and with the support of Lucasfilm Games.
