Rain and storms return to scare Formula 1 in Montreal. After the showers and hail on Friday, the Canadian circuit already had to deal with a storm this morning crazy weather which featured the GT races surrounding the event.
According to the weather projections for the time of the race, they are expected thunderstorms right around the time of departure (2pm local time, 8pm in Italy), with gusts of wind at 26 km/h. Conditions should still improve for the following hours, but rainfall percentages still remain high at around 50%.
The teams will therefore have to prepare to manage an additional variable, which is generally hoped to have those called upon to comeback from the back (like the Ferraris of Leclerc and Sainz who will both start from the sixth row). Less happy with the situation is poleman George Russell, while Red Bull (second with Verstappen) has defined itself as ready for any eventuality with a chosen set-up which – according to what Helmut Marko declared – will also be able to adapt to the wet track.
However, even in dry weather it will have to be done watch out for degradation of tires and graining on a new asphalt that had been made “green” several times by rain over the weekend. Pirelli hypothesizes a two-stop strategy as the ideal one (Medium and Hard), but never before will it be as difficult as this time to make hypotheses given the progress of the entire weekend.
