Camilo Vargas visited a victim of the battle in Querétaro

Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas was no stranger to the tragedy which was recorded last weekend in the match between his club, Atlas, visiting Querétaro, in the Mexican league.

Vargas visited one of the Atlas fans who is recovering in the Guadalajara hospital, after the brutal brawl that broke out in the stadium.

In a photo spread on social networks since Tuesday night, Camilo appears with a mask, next to the fan, who has traces of blows all over his face and is lying on a hospital tap. The image quickly went viral.

Camilo Vargas is one of the team’s figures and was chosen as the best in the league in 2021 by the Transfermarkt portal.

Other Atlas players have taken steps to help injured fans, including donating to a series of raffles.

Sanctions for Querétaro

Querétaro, from the Mexican professional soccer league, must play a year without an audience at home and its owners will have to sell the franchise as punishment for the violence that broke out in their stadium last Saturday.

The assembly of owners of the Liga MX clubs announced the sanctions this Tuesday, while the Prosecutor’s Office reported the capture of 14 men allegedly involved in the pitched battle that left 26 injured and forced the game against the current champion, Atlas, to be suspended.

“A one-year sanction behind closed doors for all the games he plays at home,” Yon de Luisa, president of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), announced at a press conference.
