Activision has released a report on the activity of his Call of Duty anti-toxicity toolswhich will also work with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 since launchwhich will happen on October 25 on PC, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PS4 and PS5. The idea is to foster a positive and welcoming community for all players. It seems like a utopia, but having stopped 45 million messages it’s already a start.
Intelligent moderation
The toxic player behavior it’s one of the biggest problems in online games and Call of Duty wants to set a good example in combat, also in anticipation of the launch of the next chapters.
It’s about AI-based voice and text chat moderation systems. Voice moderation is currently working in English, Spanish and Portuguese, but will soon be available in French and German as well. Text chat moderation will be live in twenty languages at Black Ops 6 launch (it already is, actually): English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Chinese (Traditional and simplified), Turkish, Dutch, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Finnish and Romanian.
Disruptive Behaviorthe Activision team covering the topic, explained that the moderation tools target harassment and foul and derogatory language. Players will need to agree to the series’ Code of Conduct when launching Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s multiplayer modes, so they know what they’ll face if they violate it.
The 45 million messages deleted and the solutions implemented led to a 43% decrease in exposure to toxicity voice of the players.
Since improving voice chat with security enhancements in June 2024, Call of Duty has seen a combined 67% reduction in breach recidivism in Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone. As of July 2024, 80% of players who were moderated in voice chat committed no further violations. The 43% drop is calculated from January 2024 and Disruptive Behavior aims to improve the result even further, refining moderation in all types of social interactions in Call of Duty.
