Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will have to bring at least 2.5 million new subscribers to Xbox Game Pass to compensate for the lost revenues, according to some estimates based on the sales data of the shooter produced by Activision relating to 2022.
“The math suggests that Xbox will need to add at least 2.5 million new Game Pass subscribers for this to make sense,” wrote journalist Brad Sams, referring to the launching Black Ops 6 directly on Game Pass.
“It would be really great if the total numbers were between 4.7 and 5 million or, in a perfect world, 11 million per fully recover potential lost sales during the first month.”
Sustainability in a nutshell
As mentioned, Sams based itself on 2022 data, which spoke of one billion dollars in revenue at launch for Call of Duty, of which around 35% between PS4 and PS5 (4.4 million copies sold) and Xbox positioned more or less in the middle of that value, at least at the time.
This means, according to the journalist, that Microsoft is expected to raise between 150 and 200 million dollars from new subscriptions to compare with what he could have achieved without including the shooter in the Xbox Game Pass catalog.
In short, when we talk about the sustainability of Game Pass, we should take this data into consideration to understand whether the Redmond company’s strategy is it working or not.
