According to Christopher Dring, director of GamesIndustry.biz, this fall Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows Will Drive PS5 Salescontributing significantly to the increase in the installed base of the Sony console.
“PlayStation 5 results are better than expected,” Dring wrote in commenting on the latest official figures. “The first-party lineup for 2024 is relatively quiet, but with a great Call of Duty and a great Assassin’s Creed we will have important titles, capable of Accelerate PS5 Adoption during a crucial period like the fourth quarter.”
The problem, as the director of GamesIndustry.biz points out, lies in the fact that the over one hundred million people who own a PS4 have not yet upgraded to the new modelfor one reason or another, but these games might finally ignite the spark.
The cross-gen approach, a blessing and a curse
Some colleagues pointed out to Dring that Black Ops 6 will use a cross-gen approach and therefore users they will not be forced to purchase a current generation platform to be able to play it.
“People tend to update your hardware when it runs slower and the differences become visible,” the GamesIndustry.biz editor responded. “I suspect the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be one of those moments.”
Clearly the Activision series has the numbers on its side, but as many have pointed out it will be rather Assassin’s Creed Shadows Coming Only to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|Swhich will actually aim to trigger that change.
